Interviewed for Special Issue of Via Panoramica

In April 2025, I went to Lisbon to give my first keynote at the International Conference on Victorian and American Myths in Video Games. This was a wonderful conference, and out of it came the development of a special issue. Those seeds have now sprouted in VIA PANORAMICA: Revista de Estudos Anglo-Americanos / A Journal of Anglo-American Studies, as volume 15, issue 1 on ‘New Perspectives on Game Studies: Victorian and American Frames of References for Digital Games’.

So many seeds sprouted that this issue is actually part two, with the first issue resulting from the conference being published in the Winter of 2025: ’From the Victortian Era to the American Experiment: Mythic Foundational Narratives in Video Games’.

The issue is well worth reading for anyone interested in the intersection of videogames, myth, American studies and Victorian studies. That second part features an interview with me that was recorded at the conference. I chatted to the special issue’s editor, Teresa Pereira, about myth, mytholudics and my book. It was a really enjoyable chat and we got to go quite deep into the issues.

Teresa also reviewed my book as part of that issue. Both are good ways to hear what mytholudics is all about without having to dive into the book itself.

The conference and the resulting two special issues really show that what may seem like niche themes can work really well to produce focused events and publications that are truly interesting and inspiring, and allow scholars with similar interests to make some real progress.
